The LANDMARK team participated actively to the

Wageningen Soil Conference 2017 – Soil Science in a Changing World

Wageningen University, The Netherlands from 27th to 31st August 2017.

We discussed our LANDMARK novel insights in applied soil science, identified further actions for soil-based solutions that help achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and showed possible narratives on soil-based solutions that are convincing to policy makers and other stakeholders.

  • Prof Rachel Creamer (WUR) is inside the Scientific Committee of the conference and chaired the session “Land functions“.
  • Dr Taru Sanden (AGES) gave a keynote speech on  “Sweet spots of multifunctionality in arable soils” under the session the session “Land functions”. This is part of WP1 for the Austrian stakeholders engagement, WP2 for the data collection & WP3 work on understanding Primary Productivity soil function within LANDMARK. Abstract is available here.
  • Dr David Wall (TEAGASC) gave a keynote speech on “The multi-functionality of grasslands for delivering soil based ecosystem services” under the session the session “Land functions”. This is part of WP3 work within LANDMARK. Abstract is available here.
  • Dr Francesca Bampa (WUR) gave an oral presentation on “Land and soil management: structuring empirical knowledge about soil functions using multi criteria decision analysis” under the session “Governance and Policy”. This is part of WP1 for the stakeholders engagement in collaboration with JSI Slovenian colleagues within LANDMARK. Abstract is available here.
  • Lilian O’Sullivan (TEAGASC & WUR PhD student) presented her poster on “Functional land management: EU and Brazil intercontinental learning – a comparison of the scales of action and actors in landscape management “under the session “Governance and Policy”. This is part of WP4WP5 work within LANDMARK. Abstract is available here.
  • Worth to mention the keynote presentation under the session “Governance and Policy”of our SSC member Annette Schneegans (EC DG AGRI) on “Soils in the EU – Agricultural Policy and research working in tandem to spur innovation“. Abstract is available here.
