After his studies in biology, Dirk started the PhD studies at the University of Antwerp in 2008. During the first years he worked on river system analysis and the development of a policy support tool for integrated catchment management in Flanders. The following years the focus of his research shifted from water related research to the concept of ecosystem services. These days he mostly works on ecosystem services and the development of tools that help to integrate this concept within policy and management. His expertise lies mainly in research at the science-policy interface with a focus on GIS and data analysis and python programming for tool development.
